Lot's of things going on. Many thoughts in the head.
First off I find myself embarrassed about a purchase last night. Thinking I new what I was doing I bought a pair of tripod speaker stands of craigs list, only to get them home and find that Yamaha uses a non standard connector end. I am dumb. I should have just asked a question or two. I've taken a fair amount of pride in figuring out a way to make our band function live on a shoestring budget, and then lugging most of the shit around and connecting it all together, I guess maybe it was just time to get put back in my place. Now I'm dreading calling the person and trying to get a refund.
Also on the docket for our band is a HUGE decision to make regarding a PR Firm who has made a fairly tempting proposal. It's interesting, it's a fair deal of money, and in thinking about it a band would generally put out a record, then spend money and time touring, but in this day and age maybe it's better to hire a pr firm, not spend thousands of dollars on gas, stay around home and make another record, and still get your name out.

Up Early for being up SOOO late.
Last night we attended a listening party for the Dandy Warhols new album "Odditorium or Warlords from Mars". It was great fun, the band was there hanging and chatting folks up. Amy and I talked to ct2 a for a short bit, he was WASTED.
Afterwards Amy and I walked all over weho until about 2 in the morning blabbing our heads off about all sorts of things. It was great fun.
Today I'm feeling great. I'm really excited about life right now, loving being in our little band and watching it grow.

Sentry Watch Your Entry
Correctly feeling today, pretty focused and happy. The weekend was a busy blur.
Last Thursday we had the pleasure of attending Convicted Karaoke at the ultra swank Oxwood inn. I found myself having a fair deal of fun, really enjoying the new song options. I had the pleasure of singing "Ashes to Ashes" for the first time, I don't know if I did David proud or not.
Friday night the entire SG crew sans Wild attended an event called "Rocking the Macho Cockless" at the Highways performance space in Santa Monica. The event was far reaching and inspiring beyond description, suffice to say it was rather intense, especially after the consumption of a hippy pot brownie.
Saturday we played a nice little show at a skanky little bar called Studio Suite. It turned out to be a boat load of fun. Amy was really on top of her front woman game and having a good time. She worked up the locals and our crowd into a nice warm room of fun lovers. I personally felt I played well and enjoyed playing for longer than we are usually allowed.
Sunday we celebrated with Tiger his day of birth. Amy baked a lovely if not somewhat humpty dumpty cake, and we had dinner at Versaille, I can still taste the garlic.
Last night we had an apartment rehearsal for this Thursday's show. It was actually really fun once we got some minor differences figured out. We are working up a couple of new things to try, one a cover of the Altered Images song "Happy Birthday"(it is another b-day party after all), and a new song "The Apple Falls" which I am in love with but still lack a great deal of guitar parts to.
I've been eating better, or more to the point much less and have not had a drink in over a week. Oh the life.

Starting Slow
I guess need to at some point begin to blog again, so I'll start small here.
Simple goings on have been going on. Cleaning up the lifestyle a bit this week. Not drinking and what not. Going to the dog park in the evenings to sit with Amy and giggle while becoming human slobber sponges. Watching the second season of the HBO show The Wire on DVD, and enjoying it just as much as the first. My reading has stalled about 3/4 of the way through Citizen Hughes, hoping that I can finish that and jump into another mother recommended book "Middle Sex".
The Music has been good. This past Saturday we played with a drummer. She has wonderful enthusiasms and a solid base to build from, now it's just a matter of patience to see where and if she'll fit. Waiting for the album mix is all to be done on the Free Alongside Ship front. In the meantime OUT magazine has chosen the as yet unfinished album as one of their 77 top entertainment picks for fall. We have also taken up the task of writing new songs, all of which are coming along wonderfully and excitingly.

Slept With The Fishes
I am all about feeling way better today. Yesterday was a low point of re-assimilation back into the day job world. I am better for having slept though and I can see things much clearer today.
I still have nothing profound to say about my three year LA Birthday, so I'll just note it and move on.

L.A. Birthday
I have been in Los Angeles for three years now. It feels much longer than that.
This Saturday we packed up the band and drove to San Diego to play once again, their Gay Pride. The drive down was god awful and took 6 hours. Amy and I tried to keep the rockin' intestine up the entire time but alas we crawled to a halt around hour number 5, we pulled into the barn on rockin' fumes.
Our head quarters for the weekend was the fabulous Pickwick hotel on the edge of the gaslight district. I am kidding when I call it fabulous. At least the bar had cheap beer.
Sunday morning we awoke to find that our Go Go Dancer's car had been towed, we dealt with the issue then ate breakfast.
The show itself was good, but I think we were all expecting that it might be great, so good turned out to be a bit of a let down. Our fault for expecting too much I guess.
really in any other circumstance we would have been thrilled to death.
I think I'm a little burned today... I'll blog about my LA Birthday tomorrow.

Smoke It
I chanced to see the video for the new Dandy Warhols single "Smoke It" today. I have heard some rather negative shit talk on this particular song so my expectation was kind of low. I have to say I need to remember not to believe what people write on the internet... Hmm... Unless of course it's something I write on the internet, because I would not lead you astray. I really really liked the song and the video. Courtney seems to be at the height of something very sincerely sarcastic in the performance, and the song itself rips very true to something.
that's it, my wisdom for the moment.

Is it is just too Bizarre
I must pass on this email in its full form, as an attempt to document. I am utterly baffled and more than a little pleased, it's nice to see someone have such strong reaction, but at the same time puzzling.
here we go, from "Ferguson Riley":
Hello,
I am a fan of your band minus the name. I like your music and i hate your name. It has got to go if you ever want to be sucessful. Its just not marketable. Dont get me wrong, some people like the name, but it is a joke name. I've heard people say the same thing behind your back. Instead of keeping it a secret i would rather let you know. Here's an example, no band with a swear word in the title has ever been sucessful. Your band name is a representation of you as an artist and with a joke name like Shitting Glitter, it seems self defacing and like you dont take yourself seriously. Please consider this and keep on making good tracks.
Yours,
Ferguson

Not Even Tired
Friday night after work Amy and I dined at El Coyote, enjoying several drinks and a rather large bill. Following our fine meal we visited the neighborhood dog park on Willoughby and Fuller, where we made several new friends and found ourselves coated in slobber.
We had every intention of going to take in a movie for the evening when we headed home and into our now well air conditioned heaven of a bedroom, It was just getting to be 8:00. Slowly my eyes grew heavy.
Saturday Morning at 7:30 Amy decided we had had enough sleeping. I was surprised and delighted to find that we had managed to actually sleep on a Friday night. Amy promptly got out of bed and started researching info on where we could get our car tuned, I tried desperately to fall back asleep and finish out my cycle. I was poked and prodded, tickled and annoyed, finally my cellphone was placed on my head and rung. I caved and greeted the day in full.
By 2:00 pm the Car was serviced and Detailed, by 8:00 the House was clean and our laundry was complete.
A small dinner break taken at CPK brought good and horrid news. Devin called in the middle to tell us that we had been accepted to play the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, which was the one show the entire band really wanted this year. When we called around to pass on the news we received another news brief, of such ghastly awful content that I choose not to pass it any further, because I can't for a moment pretend to be capable of taking the vilest of all human actions and putting them in words when related to purest of all human subjects.
Sunday Sg convened at Satellite to rehearse from 1 to 4. Booked as a full dress rehearsal for San Diego Pride, The entire posse showed up in force and hammered out the strategy. We are prepared and Excited.
we ended the weekend by picking up the photos from the shoot with Tiger, and inspecting them at said kittens house. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the photographs. I will be fine with looking at them for the next year or so, as we move on into yet another dimension of Shitting Glitter.

retro pinocchio
i got tight on the welding mask
make it blurry to even look at it
just the sun surrounded outline, all far and deep,
the keeper of the kingdom rest his fist upon the key
stock the zipper up the high line
pull the end up to the leash
nabbing all the dots around me, singing
set aside and down to splash fish against the sheep
retro pinocchio
grow your own nose
tell them like I told you so
okay flash light in the eye
go a head and make my promise
I'll stand up and take your black mark, you got it?
i have your time in mind
make it blurry to even look at it
just the sun surrounded outline, all far and deep,
the keeper of the kingdom rest his fist upon the key
stock the zipper up the high line

The Waiting Drove Me Mad
Last night we played with Sounds of Asteroth and Skates at the El Cid. It was really a trial in patience and a triumph of the rockin' spirit. I knew we were probably in trouble when at 10:30, the time S.O.A. told us they hoped to go on, a band we didn't even know had been booked took the stage. Long story shorter we waited to play, some people probably could have behaved a little more respectfully of us and somethings just can't be avoided. Finally we took the stage at 1:15a.m. just prior to this every single member of the band including the Go Go squad had informed me we were going to leave and not play... Well... I just wasn't' going to have it... I loaded up a shit heap of heavy equipment and I didn't do it to not get to play. I feared the worst as we were all in a shitty moods when we climbed the stage. Our "friend" playing long enough and slow enough that we didn't even get to pull the fucking curtain to set up... And we never get to play places that even have curtains... So here we go, mad as hell, tired and playing to a room of exactly 10 people.... And we somehow put it all behind us and fucking rock. At the end of the show everyone looked at me and told me they were glad we waited and played. I was thrilled!
Okay... Now to go back earlier to a couple points of the day that rocked the house good and proper.
Wednesday night the shitting heat was barely bearable. I felt violently ill most of the night as I sweated my internal organs out through my epidermis. So awful. So desperate was I to not have to repeat the entire problem that I finally begged my bosses to please let me borrow a portable air conditioner from work (okay, they offered actually and I didn't have to beg, I guess I'm just still feeling dramatic). When we finally did get home late last night we slept like dead babies in a meat locker. I'm in love with conditioned air.
Perhaps the greatest thing of all about the entire night, way better than even conditioned air, was Hoagie, our Mix Master, attending our show and bringing with him three rough mixes. We were able to sneak out to Amy's truck, Devin, Amy, Hoagie and I and listen to the work he has done. Nothing short of amazing, it was a huge boost to us in a bad night hear our music better than we've ever heard it before. I was so happy that Devin and Amy liked it as much as I did. Hoagie was even kind enough to be one of 2 of our people who had the strength to wait out show time, and his words afterwards were a HUGE boost in and of themselves.
All is well that ends.

La Sid
Last night I sleeping was a chore. The horrid humidity and heat made me feel physically ill. I love to sleep and I get very angry with God or Jesus whenever they make a move to fuck it up for me, It's such a shitty fucking power trip to pull. If they think that kind of shit is going to get me back in church they've got another thing coming.
The week has gone well. We had an apartment rehearsal on Tuesday night. I had forgotten that rehearsing quietly in a small environment has it's own upside that are opposite of rehearsing in big loud room. We are still pretty lucky to be able to rehearse in such a small space and not have those people living and renting around us burn us with torches.
We play tonight, a last minute show at the El Cid. We go on late, so there will be few people there, that seems fine by me though. I've been missing playing, it will feel nice to get back at it.
I leave you know with this to think about:
"I used to be you, Mitch... And lately I've been missing me, and I asked Hathaway if I could room with me and he said, 'Sure.'"

Just Shoot Us
Nice time this weekend. Friday night Amy and I were guests in the home of Devin and Dylan Tait-Tucker. We enjoyed a fine visit.
Saturday we woke up early an energized. We had a lovely drive around los angeles in the morning, enjoying fine refreshment and listening to the radio. We soon ventured to Border's books, where we listened to a bit more music, and browsed about a bit.
Saturday afternoon we visited a new friend Cameron, the animator. Cameron shared many tales of super hero's and super villains, we listened intently.
After a having a few throughout the afternoon I was sufficiently buzzed enough to endure getting my hair cut at shorty's. As luck would have it my stylist seemed to be sufficiently buzzed in order to cut my hair. I rather enjoyed this hair cutting experience and I might go so far as to say it turned out just rosey.
Saturday night Marc Loren had a party, Devin Amy and I attended, later accompanied by Cameron. It was a lovely affair. Much trading of stories, past and present, a few people even consumed some alcohol beverages! Oh my, the silly things you can see at parties like this. Such as Amy trying to adopt an 18 year old girl child. I think Amy will make a fine mother.
Sunday We ventured to the home of Tigrefino Productions to have our pictures taken. The complete set of Shitting Glitters attended, including the extreme Go Go's! We must have been quite the spectacle in Mac Arthur park because many of the sunday picnic people stared rather hard. I think we probably informed a few young people with our very presence.
Our day in the park and in the photography studio was filled with many highlights including: Laying down in a pile of dirty off brand fruit loops, which just happened to be lying around. Sticking our smiling heads through a bridge railing. Standing around next to some big rusty balls, causing one bystander to exclaim: "I may not know much about corrosion, but I do know I've got some big rusty balls!"
We were all very pleased with our day so we decided to venture to a beer garden called "the red lion inn". My German heritage really flared up in the beer garden!

Makes Perfect
I've been reading Citizen Hughes about Howard Hughes' depths of utter madness. I have been enjoying it very much but since the book is culled from memos Howard wrote himself I wonder what kind of effect his logic rhythm is having on my inner dialogue. I don't feel like cutting my fingernails.
No real news today on the album front. It's hard not knowing. Waiting and wondering while someone else plugs away, or doesn't plug away, as is his right, being that we are getting the deal of the century to have our work mixed and mastered. I'm so excited to hear this album, 13 songs all banging off each other, sonically more advanced then anything I've ever had my hand in. It definitely makes me wonder what the future has in store. Having raised the bar every time out, how much higher can the bar go before we can't clear it? These questions and many others will be answered, all in time. Why be in a hurry Buckie? This is the reminder portion of our digitals... It's in the living and the making, not in the end. It's in the anticipation. The perfection of patience.
Tonight we rehearse at cole studios in the media district. I am looking forward to it. I've recently realized that I should be playing more guitar, with that in mind I brought a tiny acoustic guitar from home to leave at work. Hopefully a guitar available at work will allow me to steal some moments to practice.

Movements Onward
Lots of things happening with the irons in the fires, but still there is waiting to be done.
The weekend was fairly nice. Friday we jutted about and went to the parlor for Brick Tops, sadly the parlor will be shutting the doors for good sometime in the near future.
Saturday we went to an Outfest screening of the movie "Kiki and Herb Reloaded". It was fun and the duo even performed afterward for a spell.
Sunday I drove out to Malibu to work on the record. I had more fun than I've had in a long while, it is such a big thing for me to be in a studio environment working on this album, hearing and enjoying how it sounds. Thinking to myself as I hear the songs that these are songs that I would want to put in the cd player and play over and over again. Sitting there looking over a shoulder at the work being done and feeling that this is what I like most to do, and that it would be a very bad idea to not work towards the goal of doing this for a life's work.
The music itself is sounding nothing shy of amazing. I am a titter.

for the love of courtney
the shame. sobriety introduced itself to annie (norwegian popstar) at cinespace in the form of a man-child calling itself "I'M COURTNEY LOVE", whilst i sat in the unenviable position of my own stew of dos equis. at first glance, i looked like a winner. i sat sidesaddle to this new sensation from "beergn" in the green room encouraging her out of an aftershow nerve nest, not having heard a single song. it did "appear" though, that i was her bff. unfortunately, my costume lasted less than a sentence. the ugly face of silly sotty reality reared itself without delay.i stank, i'm quite sure of this. i reeked of self indulgence, of unawares. of one more forgotten conversation, slurred and half understood colloquy, lugubrious linguistic failures and very likely bad grammar. i was so drunk, i likely misspelled my mumblings. i bandy about the irony, oh the sweltering irony, of an abstaining courtney, front and center.. and a drowing amy. the kind of amy that would appreciate a clear and cordial memory of such a happenstance. whether court ordered or not, that drag queen did it. she managed to abstain. it is do-able. it is done. timing is once more, everything. i looked myself up in the thesaurus: bashed, befuddled, boozed up, buzzed, canned, crocked, drinking, drunken, flushed, flying, fuddled, gassed, glazed, groggy, hammered, high, hosed, in orbit, inebriated, jolly, jugged, juiced, laced, liquored up, lit, lush, merry, muddled, oiled, on a bun, overcome, pie-eyed, plastered, plowed, potted, seeing double, sloshed, soaked, sotted, soused, stewed, stoned, tanked, tight, tipsy, totaled, wasted, zonked.i think it's time to redefine.so buck up buckglitter, better tucked in and sober than wasted and wasting time, missing and still misses now. :(

I Live by the River
I have learned not to stay home ever again. Tuesday night over happy hour drinks and goat cheese at Cha Cha Cha Devin and Amy formed a vague plan to go see up and rising pop sensation Annie at cinespace. Being a bit worn from the weekend I opted not to go. I stayed home and watched the movie manhunter and fell into slumber on the couch.
I was pulled back to life 30 minutes later by Amy, who was bored and thinking of having me come pick her up. She told me she'd call in 15 minutes and let me know if I should come.
I waited and waited... Nothing.
Finally I decided to watch the movie "Dig" with the directors comments on. I can say at least I enjoyed myself. The movie is a fine watch and I really got into watching it with added information.
Finally around 1:40 I get a call from Devin, who wants to know if Amy has told me anything. She had not.
apparently those fuck mucks had somehow managed to wrangle their ways back stage where they had been hanging with Annie all night. As if this was not enough to make me at least second guess my choice for the evening, who and her bad self should stroll into the room? Courtney Love. Ug. I would have enjoyed that. Apparently they did.

The Moon Wax
It's so much better on holiday...
Friday was all about the silly. Amy and I accompanied by a new person named Cameron went to the Abbey for a small helping of Armondo's birthday party, it was nice and we enjoyed it, even though in our state the Abbey was just a bit much.
Later the evening finds us at yet another kick back at Devin & Dylans, we had fun leaving at some god awful early hour only to go home and generally have trouble sleeping.
On the morning of Saturday, after fitful rest on the couch we journeyed over to Noah's Bagels for some breakfast action. Nice and warm as per usual. Back home again we found ourselves in bed looking through photo albums for several hours, always strange to see old lives since lost.
Deciding to spoil ourselves for dinner we aimed ourselves on a date to "i cugini" on Ocean Blvd. in Santa Monica. It was nice, we were awarded the corner table on the patio overlooking the ocean, or at least the dark void that hides the water. We left feeling a rush, happy to have had a very thorough waitress who suggested the muscles and the lasagna, both the best I have ever had.
Sunday Morning we ventured to Wattles Garden Park, to be alone in that beautiful place in the hazy Los Angeles morning is about as much wonderful as I could ever ask for. We sat there digging the world and knocking around some silly ideas.
Finally the silliest idea took hold, Amy and I decided to hit the Hollywood Wax museum. We drove down Hollywood Blvd. To check out the hours, the place was shuttered until 10 giving us some time to kill. We ventured into the Hollywood Farmers Market on Ivar, which is possibly the best Farmer's Market in L.A., featuring live music at many locations. We remembered with a giggle that we had been there, a year or two in the past with Earl and Carrie, walking tall and proud out of the dark nasty of the Spotlight club and into the morning sun, a complete melding of opposites, the same exhilaration of stranger in a strange land feelings.
Finally the Museum opens, and Amy and I are there and ready. It is odd and Hilarious. We tour the entire thing, hardly anything appears real or even made of wax. Our cell phone camera's do not really do the trick, and though we've had an adventure we don't quite feel we have our money's worth, we then find that our tickets are in fact good for the entire day.
A quick dash to Devin and Dylan's and we are now in possession of a better camera. We trek down the block to our apartment and rummage through the clothes and make up for a little bit of flair, we find it, armed and ready we head back to the museum. Our photo shoot lasted for several hours, and the pictures that came out were nothing but worth it. Good Times.
We journey then to the fault line for bear beer bust, leaving there to stand in line at the standard downtown... Not much worth it. We then find ourselves buried in blue cheese fries and Pabst blue ribbon and pete's, how nice to be back at a favorite haunt.

And I Have Been
It's catch up section. I guess I checked in late last week?
Friday night after work Shitting Glitter headed to Vincent Free Sound studio, joined there by a founding member, Mag Edwards, a vocal harmony for the song Grady was recorded. Mag doesn't count me as a friend anymore, and never will, she proved here mettle Friday night in placing herself before someone she does not trust for the sake of expression. I am glad she did, the song better for it, as am I and hopefully so is she.
Friday Night turned very long, I stayed up late finishing guitar for Static Cling and a possible intro for Mondo Di Corpo. I also had to go through all the track assignments and make note of where everything was.
Saturday morning Amy and I still had not slept, I was taking notes and Amy was finishing up the last of the words for the song The Amnesty Party. We took a break for coffee and Amy returned to finish the album. Relief is not yet in scope.
At 1:00pm Devin arrived and we loaded up in Amy's car for the long drive to Malibu, which wasn't that long.
Hoagie had warned us not to expect the usual Malibu glamour, and later commented that he may be the poorest property owner in Malibu, but I never expected to be confronted with the splendor that is Seamonster Sounds. Just pulling down the driveway, which overlooks the ocean unobstructed I found my self inspired. The initial tour of the grounds proved to be just as breath taking, there is for lack of better description a feeling about the place. I was full on giddy.
immediately I was impressed by Hoagie, his competence is apparent, and I found the studio to be soothing and capable environment. We worked for nearly six hours straight, and transferred 13 songs for Free Alongside Ship. A few tiny issues came up, but they were all dealt with simply and efficiently. The biggest and only lasting issue was entirely my fault, and I have now learned a lesson about input levels in the Digital Medium, some major clipping occurs on some tracks, this is something we do not wish to force on the listener, I do regret that Hoagie himself will have to spend more time fixing my mistakes.
We called it a day around 9:00 and headed back into the land of the weird, stopping at a hillside fast food restaurant to nourish our body's on the way home. We were all pretty excited, except for Amy who was basically asleep, but I am sure her dreams were warm.
Saturday night was wonderful delirious sleep, hours stacked on hours, maybe the best sleep I've had in months now that the album has crossed a line and turned a corner and found it's way safely though a little worn for the wear in someone else's hands.
Sunday was crazy.
Amy and Brandon had celebration on the mind. We had bagels at our favorite Noah's, the world is always so possible when it's warm and sunny there, I can't stop myself from sitting in optimism at all the thoughts then and now bouncing off the inside of my boney skull.
We begin our Sunday Celebration in a questionable manor, seeking out what to some are strange forms of delight, but old friends to a pair like we. A long and extreme day spent wandering our city, ending up in our old neighborhood talking to certain bartenders we used to know.
All was about to end, as we sat on the floor talking, when for some reason Amy begins proving that she can in fact forge still perfectly her mother and father's signatures, I am intrigued to see a dead man's named, scrawled nearly in his own hand, when it occurs to me I've never seen a thing he written, I ask Amy is she has anything, she does. The letters he wrote, in the months before he died.
I will not inflict upon an online blog the contents of those letters, there is no need and I'd be cheap to try. We cried and cried, I had no idea before what it really must have been like to be Amy at that time, and now all I can claim from the experience is that I at least have an idea, it's not full but I can see it and for a while I felt it.
We really didn't sleep again Sunday night. My eyes were closed when the alarm peeled, I hated leaving. It was so early. I pulled myself out of the house and boarded a bus, getting off the coffee store on Hollywood, where I generally take in my liquid breakfast. Usually the place is empty except for a high school aged girl who is there nearly every morning speaking to the employees, today not even she is there. I slide to the counter and order a great deal of caffeine in a small iced cup. As I pay the high school girl fixture runs into the store and nearly clobbers the counter.
"I graduate today!"
It was a strange and shocking announcement, and I could tell the coffee employee was shocked and sad.
I received my beverage and walked into the slightly warm empty morning. Passing the Chinese Theater on the opposite side I chance to see them removing some signage. A large banner for the latest Batman movie is being pulled from left to right on two large cables, crumpling into a ball at the end, I watch the second word of the title collapse on itself and I can't help but feel like I get it, that word, "Begins".

Move to the country
It's been a no week here in my blogging land. I have been a bit distracted and just have not felt up to task. Today I'm pretty good. I had my usual friday morning MP3 jam session, blasting out some rather nice tunes here before work. Really enjoung this one song by a band named Tiefschwarz, the song is called "Warning Siren". Fun!
The album tracking must be done by noon on Satruday. We are set to be in Malibu at 2 p.m. to transfer the recordings to Hoagie @ Seamonster Sounds. I'm so nervous. I remember a qoute from Trent Rezner, or rather I vaguely Remember a qoute that said something to the effect that working on music with someone is like showing them your asshole, I agree with him, there ain't much you can hide behind when your bent over with your fingers pulling apart your cheeks. It is totally necessary to take this big leap of faith, to put money and pride on the line for a chance at the idea...

All I have to do is Dream a little Dream
Strange dreams last night as I drifted in the ether, all related to Shitting Glitter. The first dream found Devin, Amy and I all sitting around on a bed, up for apparently several days and full of many illicit substances. I believe this dream was set in the future...
As we sat there totally incapable of making much sense our record company came to our door. They were not very happy with us but they seemed a little bit scared to be mean. It kind of felt like being in a Day Care. They wanted answers on our new album, they brought out a huge chalk board and wanted to write out a tentative track list. I got out my notebook and tried to help. I was so fucked up, I was astonished to find that there were not many songs ready to go, I was panicked. I got the feeling we were way past due on the project we owed them and that they were not going to take anymore shit from us about it. I was making up song titles on the spot for them. I then drifted on.
The next dream took place around an out of town rehearsal. I recall driving south with Dylan and Amy, realizing that Devin was not going to be there at all. Also that we had no keyboards or drum machines. I dropped them off and went to get something to keep the beat. Upon returning to the car I noticed the door was open and that my amp had been removed. Just then a man with a gun came back for my guitar. I was pissed. He pointed the gun at me and made clear his intention of keeping my guitar. As luck would have it, I had the number for the sheriff of West Hollywood programmed into my cell phone, while the man pointed the gun at me I called it. He was not scared when he thought I was dialing 911, but when he heard me speak to the WeHo sheriff he totally freaked and split, leaving behind my equipment. I got to hand it to our local sheriff, they pull some weight. I missed the entire rehearsal.
The third dream had our band on stage setting up for a show. We were late and we did not care. We were all talking and mingling with each other while the crowd looked on expecting us to do something. Finally everyone was ready except for me, I looked around for my gear and realized I didn't have it all. I ended up just rigging something and calling it good. I remember being excited to hear what it would sound like but something woke me up.

Buy More Records
What we did and Didn't do has lead about something that rather depresses me. I have such an intense dissatisfaction with the way the current music industry runs, I am always more than tempted to run around and pull out all the ties and let slip the anarchy. I have often allowed myself to dip freely into the mp3 hand basket and cull forth whatever nugget I found reasonably needed. The article which follows brings to light one very sad fact of our brave new industry, and my above mentioned dipping represents in part my guilt for things that maybe didn't help. The record store in this article is the only record store that mattered to me. I am not saying matter lightly, I mean in the beginning there was GB Records and Tapes, and it was good. I come from a small town in western Kansas, my chances of having been exposed to decent music were very slim, and my chances of having that music available in pre-internet era where basically 2 in 1,000. I was blessed to live near GB Records and Tapes. It started with my brother, who spent hours there, who new the alphabet how it corresponded to pop artists. I joined in my own time, a little later and just as strange. Looking through the N section because I had no idea when people released music, and I always thought there may be a new Nine Inch Nails record. Mike and Gary at GB were always there, always subtle in their nudging, and always aware of what the customer was into. They would lead gently not by some ego driven need to turn young folks onto their wonderful taste, but because they Loved music and wanted everyone to feel that. I feel that love of music, and they are no small part of the foundation it's built upon. I'm going to miss GB, but I am not going to feel too guilty. I am angry at the industry today, because I believe they shoulder the biggest part of the blame, not the independent record store and not the music fan. I feel bad for the young people of Hays, Kansas, who is going to tell them which Bob Dylan album to buy first? Who is going to tell them when it's time they give London Calling a listen? The internet can help but it's not the same. It does not smell of incense. There is not the music someone else chose playing through a hi fi in the back ground. Web windows do not make the sound that cds make when you are flipping through them remembering almost all of them from the last time through, just looking for that one new thing.
GB Gone
The University Leaderfhsuleader@gmail.com
The era of independent music in Hays is about to meet an ignominious demise. Downtown’s GB Records will shutter its doors around this June 30 and serve its music-loving public no more.
GB Records first burst onto the Hays scene in the early ‘80s when its first storefront was opened on the Hays Mall. It served as the community stop for musical refreshment at that location for five years before making the transition to its longest running home at 10th and Main Street in historic downtown. Since then GB has served as a hub for local bands to sell some records and collectors to get that one elusive LP.
The GB manager, Mike Ferguson, explained that they chose to set their closing date near the July 31 end of the fiscal year. The midsummer closing will also leave storeowners time to perform any renovations that are needed over the summer.
But the era of the music store in Hays will end and end soon. The closing of GB is likely to leave a void in the character of Hays, as it is the last true record store.
“I won’t find another place like this to come; I’m going to miss the pleasure of coming in and listening to the music,” said Ferguson. “I think the thing that most people are going to miss is the expertise [of our staff]-we know our shit!”
Ferguson fondly muses on his time at GB while vintage Elton John wafts over the store speakers. “That’s what is probably the most fun about working here, is when somebody comes in and asks for something particular and we say ‘Yeah’ and put it on for them ‘cause you know you have it. That’s fun.”
Over the last five years, business at the store has fallen by more than half. “We’re still in the black, it’s just that business keeps falling,” said Ferguson.
The decline in the store’s profits can be attributed to the same two factors that have coalesced over the past few years to severely challenge a majority of our nation’s independent music stores.
Wal-Mart has cut a swath of bankruptcies and closings of small businesses. Its large inventory and ability to sell products at warehouse prices have served to undercut many an independent store’s clientele. However, major damage wasn’t done by Wal-Mart until the late ‘90s when it moved to its new supercenter location north of I-70.
“[People] flock to Wal-Mart like maggots to a dead roast,” said Ferguson. Now people can merely get off the interstate, get all they need there and get back onto the interstate without having to even glimpse the stone Hays sign.
The final death knell of independent music arrived with the phenomenon of free music downloading, which in itself has been responsible for a large portion of the steady drop-off in GB’s sales.
Ferguson commented on statistics about this trend, “The general public, by a 2-to-1 margin, think there’s nothing wrong with copying copyrighted material…among younger people that rises to 4-to-1.”
This has led to a fundamental change in the way the music industry sells music and the way people buy it. “The percentage of college students who buy music has declined, as opposed to downloading. Especially now that downloading is legal song by song…you can totally bypass the old network.
“The majority of college students do not support independent stores; you’re a generation that by-and-large shops at Wal-Mart,” said Ferguson. Unfortunately, his statement proves to be true for the majority of college students.
Since the 1960s, Hays has seen a gradual gravitation of commercial businesses away from the downtown district and out to the Vine Street corridor.
In the ‘60s, downtown businesses were fueled by a student population without cars who were forced to walk. As the percentage of students with cars exploded over the course of the ‘70s and the ‘80s, undergraduates found it easier to use the five to 10 minutes that would be spent looking for downtown parking to drive up to Vine and its guaranteed spaces.
Because of this, “Anyone who is doing retail downtown is fighting hard,” said Ferguson. “It’s been a long run and we have lasted much longer than other similar stores in small towns. I’m surprised we have lasted this long.
“I don’t want to give the impression that the college hasn’t been a very good thing. Without the college, this store would have probably never been here. Right up to the present, we have always employed at least one college student, sometimes two or three back in the good old days.”
All the good times are soon to be over for the GB Records manager, and he leaves the readers with a farewell, “Thanks for the support that we have had from the college, and for the rest of you, buy independent!”

Nights with the Devil
I am so very proud... This was a weekend of utter silly. I am not really much for taking care of my self some times. We began the debauchery around 5:45 pm, and it ended sometime late last night. Amy and I actually woke up on the sidewalk near our home, wondering how long we had been there and why... I don't know if anyone has the answer to this question. I don't know that I want to know.
It was a long strange journey. We had a party at Devin and Dylans home, then we had a backrub on their porch at 7:00 a.m., we made a new friend, who's luck didn't show up to help her through Saturday.
Sunday was just darling. The parade was wonderful, the gay was everywhere. The festival was a trip of trying to hold tight to the Amy leash.
I am tired, I am not worth a great deal today. I am in a strange way not very bothered by my lack of ability to think.

Happy Blog Day! Or how even I can keep a journal for a year if I'm are being paid to do it
It all goes in circles. The first entry in my blog, one year ago today was all about getting over a hang over. Today I am not so much hung over as I am exhausted. I was up till something like 3:30 last night. The alarm sounding at 6:45 was not fun.
It has been fun writing down whatever stupid things come into my mind, and I hope I can continue to do it. Next year on the blog birthday I think poor Dan will have to get the hard copy.
And now a few last words to Jason.
So that is that, a year in the life vaguely described by a humble office manager. There were some high points and some low points, but in the interest of truth I must say I think the extreme low and the extreme highs were more alluded to then struck head on. It ain't all roses, but it ain't all a stocking full of coal. We wake up, we work, we eat and dream, it's all in a hard day's life.
Think hard about that Jason folk/country album, that sounds like a real winner to me.
I think I'll end this here year with a poem, and like most of my poems it could be about nothing, of course I don't know yet, because I'm still typing the intro.
Main course fry flies have wings that cut glass, shards of flutter falling in spiral symptoms, we are all the stricken with a cure to tough to take, to pure for that type of delusion, all pancakes piled high, all lights lead to here, you get the picture I get the negative, elect to office of opposite, and remember the darkest places hide the most excitement, unless you feel otherwise then it's all good anyway.
I guess I was really not up to that.

Another Life of no Sleep
Member that song Jason? By Chem Lab? Chemical Halo? I was remembering that one the other night, hence the title of the post, that and preparation for a long gay pride weekend. We have submitted ourselves to Kansas City's Gay pride this year, so we might be coming again to your town to play. That would be fun huh?
How are you today? I bet you are grumpy because it's early in the morning. Tee hee!
I am a little tiny bit hung over today. Last night our friend Robert had a birthday so we all went out to dinner at a place called Todai, which is Japanese for way more money than it should be. We had a lot of fun and I did get to eat a great deal of raw fish though. Then we went to a leather bar which gets converted to a lezzy bar on Wednesday nights by way of $1.25 beer, it was fun.
I'm actually having a little instant message conversation with Amy at this moment, I am switching back and forth betwixt windows. We are talking about being over drinking, that is an easy thing to talk about at 9 a.m., but more and more I seem to be thinking I am over extreme binge drinking. Wouldn't that be strange? Amy and I were just saying wouldn't it be funny if we just lost interest in the demon liquor, much like we did in pot, we both agreed that would be pretty funny. Strange enough I think it would piss some people off, I know I don't get many positive reactions on nights that I choose not to drink. Funny people huh? I bring it up just to basically as a way of saying thanks for always being supportive, of basically any decision I make or don't make, you are a good friend for that and other people could probably learn a great deal from it, I know I have.
So today should be pretty simple, I have a few items on my desk that I need to deal with, most of them things that I put off dealing with yesterday. I would say I have a good 33 minutes of work ahead of me today. Of course I am not about to go doing all that in one lump hunk, no I'll spread the love around, 5 minutes here, 1o minutes there and then save the rest for tomorrow. Tomorrow is Friday you know.
Well sir, it's almost up, one year in the blog.... Eeshka!? Who would have thought? Not me. I was as surprised as you'll probably be when you open up the large clasp envelope that has all intentions of showing up on your door next week. I wonder what you will think it is... A box of French fries? Possibly... For those of you that are not either myself or Jason you'll note that Mr. Jason once sent me a single French fry through the postal service. I did not eat that French fry, and I'm sure your wondering why, if not your probably at least a bit curios about why he sent it, if it's not at least apparent the reason why I did not choose to eat it.
Good luck today Jason, Eat the fry of life.

Jason Station w/ A side of other stuff
Okay, still going to stick with the whole Jason theme for a bit today. As those regular readers will note we are getting ever closer to that fabulous one year old mark for Believable Needs, and that means that I am feeling a bit gooey inside, and a bit amazed at the passage of time, and it got me thinking about things and people, and of ways to celebrate this little milestone, my personal favorite being printing the entire fucking year out and mailing it to Jason, who does not often humor the internet.
So yesterday I got all emo on your ass about this character, today I'm going to try and hit it from a different angle but I gotta warn you, I'll probably just get all emo again.
When I google Jason the second entry goes to a page that begins:
Warning You Have Just Entered My Webpage
I live on a 10,000 acre farm in the middle of nowhere.
I have a cat, a horse, and 10 chickens and one verrrrry
annoying little sister, she is three years younger,
and four inches shorter. My hobbies are eating, and
riding my 4-wheeler. The only sports I play are
baseball, and softball.
This is not the Jason that I now and right about today, I only mention it because I searched him today and found this page to be hilarious. Really? How funny is that part about 4 inches shorter?
How about this entry, also about a different Jason:
CHATTANOOGA - Outside a Parisian store before sunrise Friday, Jason Rucker endured some taunts in a line of shoppers craving $15 digital cameras...
or this:
Jason Rucker has had a 70 Redfish day....
So I guess the only theme I am really hitting here by spending my time at work looking at other Jason Ruckers on Google is that there are many people named Jason Rucker, and they all do their own thing.
I might at some point in this entry start making sense, but we are this far in today with no sign of it so I guess we may face the possibility that we won't.
****
Last night we dined at Basix, which was probably a bit extravagant for our actual needs but it sure was fun, I found myself a bitdisappointedd in their apple pie a la mode, which claimed to havecaramell somewhere within, none of which I was able to detect.
After the whole eating thing we indulged ourselves in a bit of laundry, then watched episode 5 of "The Wire", and passed out from being awake all day.
****
Yesterday afternoon I got an email I never really expected to get. The email came from my current girlfriend's ex-girlfriend, who was still dating my girlfriend when shebecamee my girlfriend. The email was extremely well written and I'm left at a pause over how to respond, if at all.
Which reminds me of one thing, and I mention in it here because I remember it now, hold tight this really only applies to one person, and if you don't suspect it's you then skip a head to the next star, I'm sure you'll just be confused if you don't.
S.C.B.O.F., that was some fucked up shit you said to me the other day and you owe me an apology, I know that it ain't all roses but you don't get to take that kind of shit out on me, and for that infraction I want a specific apology. I apologize for not telling you this in person or in private, but I thought of it here and I don't want to dull the point.
****
Okay, well... this is all a little strange. I'm thinking about deleting it. Then again, it's kind of dramatic, I think we need a big arc to finish the year off, to really give Jason a sense of the action.
I'm going to keep going with this public airing of private conversation.
Jason,
Hello, and how goes it. I guess I need to directly address this package you'vereceivedd, I am sure by now you have kind of gathered what it's all about, just a little way of saying hello, here is what I've been up to in the last year. Most of it is sillyness, and not really written for any purpose other than as my own memory aid, but I do find the idea of making you wade through the whole thing as really funny. You are a fantastic reader anyway.
I think maybe you should start yourself a journal soon, and in one year I want it. Consider that anassignmentt. Or else you could give me something else, something strange and from the heart. I would really like to hear a Jason Rucker folk/country album, allacousticc guitar and voice, recorded live onto a thrift store boom box tape deck. That would be amazing, I bet you could do that very well. Just remember to take your time, no need to rush, start small and build, but you know that, you are patient.
Thanks for everything man, I'll be in touch.

I love you all, even when I have to demand that you apologize to me from inside my blog.

Usual Programming
I'm back again in the same day! It has been a while since I've done a double, but I really feel like impressing Jason and padding the stats, perhaps pushing my document to 100 oddly spaced pages. I am rubbing my hands together.
I have had a pretty nice morning so far. I was ultra on time which allowed me the luxury of a non-fat milk cappuccino at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on Hollywood Blvd. I slowly drank my beverage and strolled around the deserted structure at Hollywood and Highland for about 10 minutes before I had to sink down into the underground an catch my train. My legs felt a little stiff as walked, because I have been running, yet another fact I bring up just so I can feel cool in front of Jason, who is probably also running on occasion.
I know what some of you are thinking, who oh who is this Jason and why does he get italics. He is a guy, and he gets Italics because he's my guy! And don't you wish you knew what I meant by that?
Actually Jason and I go way back, let me slip you back in time, to a simpler place...
Highschool... Jason used to live across the alley from my family, he lived there with his family, as most semi well adjusted white people from the middlewest tend to do in high school. I say that not to say people of other pigments don't' do that, just to mainly point out that we were all very white in that town, which I of course do not think is a good thing.
I never really knew Jason in any sense when he lived behind me, in fact, I do believe I only saw him mow the lawn a couple times, which is probably more than he could say for me, I was not much of a lawn mower.
It was not until after my family moved to a new home, on the street that sat next to the alley opposite Jason's family home that we became the fast friends that we became.
It was absurd things like running and music that brought us together, and even stranger things like running in the country in the middle of the night that kept us that way.
To be specific about our bonding it really all began one fine night, after one of the last cross country meets of my freshmen year. After the long bus ride home a serious of events that not even I recall led us to hang out. We went to a park near our High School, Jason had grown up in the neighborhood surrounding the park, thus Jason was privy to a bit of secret information about this very park, the location of some super hidden hideout in a dark and scary drainage tunnel. We climbed deep inside, and once inside it was pretty well sealed, deep underground, we got on and we still get on, but sadly, due to the fact that we are both married or sort of entwined, we don't get it on.
Yes, from there on in our time in Hays were was tight, we was a very small click. We ignored the people in the back seat of our cars, we rolled down the windows and we sang loud. We agreed, a lot.
I learned to read and dig it because of Jason. I learned to say "Dig It" from the man. My parents revoked my curfew due to Jason's bite sized charms, and for that alone the guy gets my gratuity. We really discovered some things together, things so varied and far reaching that you can only call them things. Just let it be said that it was great, and good, and all those things that it should be.
It all still is, not as overtly active, it's not even regular in true physical sense, but it's always there, and deep, I like it, I like those things, it's a big part and I am counting that blessing.

Prepare the Bomb Drop
I Printed out like 80 pages of this thing today in preparation for bombardment. My poor friend Jason will have to read an entire year of Buckie.
Mr. Rucker,
If you are reading this you have either skipped ahead or been a good boy. I don't imagine you as the type to ever jump over paragraphs that could contain slanderous remarks on your general character but if you have you are a trusting soul. I imagine you actually have stuck it out and read this strange package, and I'm sure you often wondered what the hell I was even talking about, or who some of these strange people are, I am afraid when I went back and read this fucking thing I often thought the same way. I guess I'm trying to say don't look for to many answers from this guy right here, he is as puzzled as the rest of me.
I've had some fun preparing a package for you, I have had to really fight the urge to send it off a little early, I'm kind of a pervert sometimes.

Nice weekend. Devin and I recorded the last of the keyboard parts for the album, now only a flute part and some back up vocals need cut. then just a little minor editing and notation and the fucker is finished.
Tiger had his master's thesis art show this Saturday, it was a grand work on Gay Bar Bathrooms, I enjoyed attending the event, and I'm impressed as hell that he managed to finish his master's with all these distractions lying around.
Saturday Night was a long fun night, Amy and I enjoyed ourselves very much, wondering around Weho until the late hours of the night. Our morning took a nice turn when we found a wonderful review of our new cd on the internet, it inspired us to flesh out a theme and chorus for a new song, "The Apple Falls".
I'm very excited about it, I guess I always am.

I don't learn so well
Last night I was awake until around 4 am. I don't know why I do these things to myself. I am not a very smart person some times. I used to have this theory that my job didn't pay me enough to come in well rested, now I'm wondering what the logic in that was. Oh well....
Last night marked the strange return of Convicted Karaoke, this time at the fabulous Oxwood Inn. I enjoyed it very much, but it was also a little hard to deal with, it's sad that there can never be another Gold 9 Karaoke, but it's probably for the best.
I'm looking forward to (crosses fingers) finishing up tracking on the album this weekend.

I've Slept
Today appears to be Thursday, I appear to have nothing really to report.
If I added up all the headline deaths could there would there really be anybody left and if I took caution at all the causes of the concerned where could I go without feeling warned Paying attention to all that you ask leaves little instance of things I can grasp returning the favors now fills up my day and I'm left saying thank you for the bills that I pay
sick and trying
launghing tourture
have a chuckle at it
I got out my abacus and tried to make some sense of this and I ended up deciding that it doesn't
you sold me a compass and now I'm getting lost, I tried to return it but the receipt is long since tossed
I turned off my home computer and and now my home is confused
I was hoping I could just live here but there is not living room

All in the All
I feel pretty good about today. It's hump day. It's the beginning of June. I am fast approaching the one year birthday of my blog. I've lost some weight recently. I haven't been drinking. I've been running. Free Alongside Ship is wrapping up a bit, which is kind of scary in a lot of ways. I thought it was going to be so much simpler than the last album but now I can see it's turned itself into a bit of a cluster fuck, I just hope I can sort it out in time to not be embarrassed when it's turned over for mixing.
The long weekend had some very high white notes and I enjoyed hearing them.

Feelin' Snappy
Good vibrations today. With Devin out of town I got to drive his car to work this morning, thus giving me about an hour more to sleep. Add this extra sleep of today with the sleep of yesterday and you've got a much better Buckie.
Yesterday I drove Devo to the airport for his flight home, then I tooled clear across town to Satellite Studio to record guitar. It was fucking grand, being left alone in a room where I could be as loud as I wanted was just soo much fun. I knocked out a bunch of songs all of which seem to sound much better for it. I certainly felt much more comfortable in my playing then I have for a while. It has taken me some time to really feel confident and comfortable in the role of guitar player, but I think I am finally getting there.
This weekend I think we are going to party like we mean it.

OMG!! Big Fun! Part 2
So the post below is a bit on the silly mush side but let me just say that Amy and I did in fact win the trip to Hawaii. This morning she drove me to the subway station and we listened to the radio the whole way waiting to find out and nothing was happening, they were not talking about it and I was waiting to hear before getting out of the car and on to my train... So finally I gave up and ran down to meet my train, then I realized I just missed it so I ran back up to see if she called and there was a message on my voice mail that just said "we won".
I ran back down to catch my train and I was just shaking. I soo almost told everyone on the platform but I thought better of it, they probably would have pushed me in front of the train.
Maybe there will be a part 3 later!!

Hoort
My muscles are tired today. I have been running some lately in addition to walking to work in the morning. It's fun to feel like I can still exercise a bit.
Last night we watched more of season three of Six Feet Under, it was fun, I like this season much better than the last.
I really have very little to say today.
Devin leaves town this week to attend his 10 year reunion, I guess he is getting old.

Ew... Been A Spell
I have been neglecting my blog again. Things have happened, I'll pickup at the fabulous and take us back through the mundane.
Last Wednesday, we were allowed, not invited per se, to attend the premier screening of the first episode of the final season of Queer as Folk, and the fab after party.
The screening was held at the Regents Showcase Theater on La Brea, I very much enjoyed the setting and the new episode. The show was nice but the after party was the cats lingerie...
The party was held at the Cooley Estate on Rossomore, Cooley apparently owns the Abbey. I can't really at all describe this party, it was really like nothing I have ever been a part of. I'll just note that it was fun and that I enjoyed it, if you have any questions get me drunk or otherwise altered and I'll tell you all about it... Hell I might even drive you by the location if you really feel like pressing your luck.
I have been dieting, due to the fact that I have to or else I will be a large blob of man fat. It is going well, I feel much better, but it isn't as fun as eating like it's my last day on earth.
Friday night Amy and I cleaned the communal closet, it took hours but now we feel much better about our available clothes.
Saturday we lounged about and slept in, then had lunch with Devin and Dylan at the soup plantation. We capped the weekend off with an odd run to Sable Ranch on an errand for a friend. Sable Ranch was bizarre, it's located about 10 miles north of LA proper, once you pass through a gate and over a cattle guard your on what would appear to be a normal ranch, except that there are film crews everywhere. We had to approach every set looking for the person we were looking for, we finally found him but not before we found a blanket full of heads and bodies, none of which were attached to each other. That was neato.
Sunday we rehearsed at Satellite from 1 to 4. It was fun, I have been enjoying my own amp more and more. We worked out some instruments for a new dancey song devin programmed, it's fabtab, I really like how my part is sounding thus far. Then when going through our sequencer we found this one pattern that Devin didn't recall making, that I vaguely recollect, we jammed out on it a bit, it's fun, I really like it, hope we get to use it.
Amy and I have been watching season 3 of Six Feet Under, it's been treating us well until my DVD player decided to fritz and now maybe not work.
Hoagie has been approached to mix and master "Free Alongside Ship",it will be an expense, but one we will pay.
I record guitar on Thursday from 12 to 5.

Approaching the Mark
I've been re-reading this whole mess this week, I'm nearing my one year blogging birthday. In re-reading it I've confirmed what I've always suspected, that it's more of a personal record than a public one, but I believe the fact that it is at least available for public viewing has had a positive impact. It has been a fun little stroll down memory lane, I remembered things I had forgotten and realized I had omitted many things as well.
I've been entertaining my mind and ears lately by reading Mp3 Blogs, it is wonderful and exciting to once again be confronted with the great well of popular music, just his morning alone I've heard at least 5 tracks by artists I've never heard of that really appealed to some deep part of my listener. It's an interesting world out there, and we are all welcome to it.
I'm glad it's Friday, this morning on my walk to work I called everyone I could think of that wouldn't answer their phone and left long rambling messages, I like to remind people in other parts of the country that I'm still here, and I haven't changed all that much.
I have a sick plan, I think on my blogs birthday that I will print the entire thing out and mail it to one Jason Rucker. Tee hee hee.

Sigh for Sore Eyes
My eyeballs hurt. I sat here staring at this very computer screen for 8 hours yesterday, only to head home and stare at the tiny LCD display of a Digital Audio Workstation for another 6 hours. Not smart, but motivated. Last night we found ourselves staring down the barrel of having to return our wonderful borrowed microphone, but bless us in disguise it paid off very well for us. We knuckled the fuck down and completed main vocal tracks for nearly all of the songs for FAS. There now need to be many hours now put into the guitar and then some back up vocals and miscellaneous synthing, followed by some decisions about money mixing and mastering.
I am very pleased, there are some takes inside that little box that fucking cook. Devin and Amy really stepped up to the plate last night and reminded me just how lucky I am to work with really truly talented people. I now gotta be a man and do right by the work they've done.
This weekend was fucking wonderful for the most part. Mexican Independence slaughtered my ass so hard on Thursday night that I had no will nor energy to do anything Friday night except camp on the couch and watch CSI on DVD. Amy and I were fast asleep by 11:30 pm. Saturday I slept in while Amy cleaned, I owe her about 100 years of cleaning house, it was nice and I won't pretend I didn't enjoy waking up 12 hours after I went to sleep with a spotless house. We had a nice brunch at Noah's Bagels and then headed home and cleaned out the car. Returning home Amy and I had a lazy beer then went into the closet to record some vocals.
Being the good Shitting Glitter's that we can be we then went to Satellite to rehearse our asses off for about three hours. "Static Cling" a brand new song has really come together in the last couple of rehearsals.
After rehearsal we all felt a smidge wiped so we went home, smoked medical grade hashish, procured legally w/ a prescription, listened to the Ani Difranco song "Serpentine" 6 times and went to sleep. Sunday morning was silly, we had breakfast part 1 at the Coffee Bean and breakfast part 2 at The French Market, where we saw a HUGE dog and Sally Struther's (let the record show that I am not being clever her, the dog and Sally were as a matter of fact Two different Beings).
After breakfast parts 1 and 2 we were pretty tuckered out, we proceeded to sit on the couch, finish a bottle of wine from the night before and watch more CSI. Round about 2:00 We both called our Mommies, as it was the Mom holiday. We stuck ourselves in the closet for a few hours in the late afternoon then Amy took herself to a private restaurant to surround herself with her lesbians and watch the L Word.
I got out my guitar and did a few cracks at a few tunes, it didn't really flow as well as I would have liked so I got out the Hashish instead. Ripped to the tits I decide to go for a jog/hike. I jogged up to the bottom of Runyon Canyon and then hiked to the top, cresting the first major peak about half an hour before sundown. Being pure and content and stoned I looked down over all of my lovely home, it's nice to catch yourself being happy.
I walked down the mountain and back home feeling so very pleased with myself.
Amy returned from her dyke outing, feeling high on life and shots of patron. She accompanied me to dinner at Swingers, where we had a Brownie Ice Cream Sunday, followed by an Ahi Tuna Sandwich.

Dear Coffee
Thanks.
This weekend was good. Saturday rehearsal at Swing House, felt odd, kind of like cheating on Satellite, our regular rehearsal studio, but nice and filled with potential, and much closer to our homes. We all felt guilty about our indiscretion so we called George right away and booked a rehearsal for next Saturday with him. It was very nice to play again, and to feel the energy the three of us can put out. We Really had a good thing going on, it just felt really right and unforced. I love playing when everything is going just as it should. There is a bunch of new stuff to play, and some new takes on old stuff. Playing "Mustache Rides" the original way again was just a blast.
I still feel a bit teetering on the brink, but I detect a little more tip.

Today's Blog is brought to you by my Grandmother.

Childhood Stories
On Christmas Day in 1911 Iza Noah and Webster were united in marriage at the Henry Noah home south of Palco, Ks. Iza was teaching school and Webster had been staying with his grandparents just south of the schoolhouse. After they were married the grandparents went back to Missouri and Iza and Webster lived in the house south of the school house. I remember that school being called the Hawkins school as the Hawkins family lived just west of the school.
In the fall of 1912 on September 2 a little girl was born to the Weller’s. She was named Eva May Weller. She had red hair and was naturally a special person as she was the first grandchild on either side of the families and the first great grand child for the William Noah family. Ralph Emerson Weller was born into the family on 2/25/1916 then Robert Lee Weller was born 7/18/1917 and Dale Henry Weller was born on 6/13/1919. My mother had her hands full for awhile. Dad was a horse trader besides farming and was gone some on trading deals so I remember trying to help mother care for the babies. Mother said Robert cried more than the others and she thought he probably thought he was neglected sometimes. Dad had his first car, a Buick, when I was 3 ½ years old. I think they were really proud of it as we had several pictures taken, then later Dad went to Fords.
When I was 5 years old, Ralph was 1 ½ and we had a stomach disorder called summer complaint and all we could eat for about two weeks was oatmeal gruel as there were no refrigerators in those days or ice to keep things cool and a stomach disorder was very serious. We recovered satisfactorily, it was a long time before I could eat oatmeal again.
Sometime between my fourth and fifth birthday we moved on the place where the Noah Great Grandparents had lived. I can remember we ran out of coal and the town was out too. There were no trees to burn to keep warm just wide open prairie at that time, so we had to go to grandfather Henry Noah’s to live until some coal came in on the railroad. Whenever the car load of coal came in the telephone operator gave the line ring, which was a five or more long rings and everyone would rush to their telephone and hear the news. Then everyone would get their team and wagon and head for town to get their share of coal and then we could go back home. I think this coal shortage happened just before Christmas sometime as I remember on Christmas morning at Grandma’s when I go up there was a doll with a porcelain face sitting by my stocking and it was the most wonderful thing I ever saw and I knew there had to be a Santa Claus but I was a little disturbed because my aunt Violet and Verna who were fourteen and sixteen years old just got big long ribbons to wear in their hair, and they thanked each other for the gifts. I also remember when I was about 5 or 6 years old my mother had made me a heavy brown wool plaid coat. It had a big circular collar on it and I thought it was a grand coat. It was early spring and cool and I was wearing my coat outside to play. There was a little pool of water below the barn and I was throwing things in and pushing them with a stick when all at once I slipped and fell in. My coat absorbed water by the gallon and I was so heavy I thought I would never get out of that pool. I went to the house, a sorry looking little girl. I can’t recall any punishment except the feeling of ruining my lovely coat.
When I was in the first grade, our house burned down one night in February. We were sitting in the living room reading and keeping warm when we heard a noise upstairs. Dad ran to the stairway and the upstairs was afire. They thought probably it was started from a faulty flue or chimney, the line ring was given and the neighbors came in but there was nothing they could do except carry out a few pieces of furniture. Now this home was two houses joined together just at one corner and the other house did get most of their furniture out. But my folks lost all of their valuable papers as marriage papers, birth certificates of the children, records keepsakes and other things that could never be replaced.
Then we moved to an old three room house that no one was living in, about one mile north of where we had been living while they were rebuilding where we had been living. I recall while we were living at this old house we had a terrific blizzard with a terrible strong wind and lots of snow it blew in one room that had a north door until there was a snow drift clear across the room. The storm was so bad Dad wouldn’t even go out of the house for 1 ½ days because he might not be able to find his way back. He thought the cattle might be dead or covered up with snow as they were in a draw in a little shed, but they were all right when he went out after the storm.
When I was able to go back to school after the storm I walked across ravines that filled with snow clear above the fence posts. I picked armloads of wild daisies in that pasture after the weather warmed up that spring. I recall one time I walked home from school and no one was there. I sat on the door step and looked and looked until they came home when the sun was going down. There were some neighbors just a little ways from our house, but I wouldn’t go over there. I think they watched me from their house until my folks came. That late summer or fall we moved back to a new house where the old ones had burned down. We lived there several years.
I recall that we had a total eclipse of the sun one of those years. I think it was in August as the threshing crew were there for dinner and mother was cooking so much as that always meant quite a few men would be there for dinner. I remember I laid down to rest a while that afternoon and when I got up about 3 O’clock it was getting dark and the young chickens came in and sat on top of their coops where the usually roosted in summer time when it was hot. Mother had to explain it all to me. I also recall we went to a Chautaugua or two in Palco during the time we lived in the new house. These were programs put on by people traveling through the country and were a very special occasion. I don’t think we children were in town too many times when we were small, it was always a big occasion.
When I was in the fourth and fifth grade we moved to a house that was built in the side of a hill and we had lots of trees to play in. Soon after we moved there, my great uncle Lon Noah & wife and his family moved in across the road from us and his children were Myrtle, Enos, Lila, and Eddie. Lila and Eddie were about the age of Ralph and myself so we had lots of good times playing together.
I had a playhouse under some trees. It was ground swept clean until it was a hard floor then I had boards all the way around it, to make the different rooms. I had stakes driven in the ground with boards standing on their sides. Boxes and various things found on the farm were the furniture, stove and some toy dishes. White shale rock was abundant and that decorated all the cakes, pies, cookies and so forth that were made of mud, then baked in the make believe ovens.
One time Bob was coming up to my playhouse and was bitten by a snake. We couldn’t find the snake so mother had to take him to the doctor. Nothing serious happened so it must have been a bull snake.
I remember another time at this place when we had a big hailstorm that came in early morning just as Dad had cut 2 rounds around the wheat field with the binder, that was all the crop we had that year.
I loved to read books when any were available and Dad would come in and scold me for not helping Mother. I got so I really hid my books quick and would be working if I heard him coming. We were two miles from school so Eddie Noah drove a horse and buggy and Lila, Eddie, Ralph, and I rode to school in that, sometimes we picked up Eleanor Hawkins and she had to ride in the little box behind the seat as there was no room left in the front. She only lived ½ mile from the schoolhouse. I was in the fifth grade by myself and I liked that. (Mom had inserted a note here stating: Forgot to tell about running off and Phillip making syrup from corn cobs)
The next year when I was in the sixth grade we moved to the Bass farm which was closer to Palco. We had to walk about 1 ½ miles to school. There was a herd of Holsteins with a big bull in a pasture that we walked by. We children would look for that bull then wait until he went over the hill before we would walk on home. Sometimes he got out and came to our farm and Dad would chase him off by riding a horse and hit him and stick him so he wouldn’t come back. Dad had a riding pony that was high strung and then an old white mare that we children rode. One time Ralph and Bob were riding the two horses in the pasture after the cows and Bob’s horse the high strung saddle horse became frightened at something and started running toward the house as fast as he could go and Bob was hanging on for dear life, Mother (with Dale in her arms), and Dad and myself stood there and watched scared stiff as the horse turned two corners and Bob hung on until the horse came into the lot. We were so thankful. I wore my hair in a braided pigtail at this time. One day Mother decided to cut off the pigtail and I have it in a box to this day. Dad wasn’t very happy that she cut it off. She didn’t tell him she was going to do that as you know fathers love their little girls long hair so much.
This place had a big house & barns on it and we children really enjoyed playing the barns but Dad just rented it so it was sold in about a year and the owner came and lived in part of the upstairs until we moved the 1st of March. The man fried a big pan of potatoes and onions for himself and his hired man every evening and that was the most wonderful smell. I wanted Mama to cook that every day too. Then we moved a mile north to the Rake Straw place. The next fall Dad got a horse and buggy for we children to drive to school as it was 2 ½ miles. The horse would sometimes get out of the barn and go home and then we would have to walk home. I recall Dad made us two pairs of wooden stilts and w had lots of fun running races against each other. Also he got us a Shetland pony to ride. We called here “Queen”. I took music lessons from a Tucker girl that lived 1 ½ miles east of our place and I always rode the pony to this place. One time I got sick on the way to my lesson as my pony got stubborn and wouldn’t go for awhile. So the music teacher had be lay on the bed for awhile , it was there I saw my first bed bugs. I never got sick again.
I remember Dad harvesting wheat that year with a header pulled with horses and a stacker to catch the wheat and put it on the stack. We were really getting modern. We raised Turkeys and I always had to set outside and watch where the turkey hens went to lay their eggs. The next year when I was in the seventh I had a man teacher “Truesdale” was his last name, but he was fired before school was out because the boys of the school said he smoked in their out house. I think Naomi Germany finished the term. I got the mumps four days before school was out and missed the last day of school dinner, and that was always a highlight of the year. Then the next day the boys were playing in the barn and set the hay on fire, Dad wasn’t home, Mama and the boys carried water from the tank close by put it out. Since I wasn’t over the mumps I couldn’t help. I think some boys got some punishment for that trick from their Dad when he got home.
All seventh and eighth graders had to go to a certain school and take exams sent out by the state. I really dreaded that, but took my bucket of lunch and went to a school on the Old Red Line road and I did pass. I don’t know how. Maybe they didn’t read our answers. That summer Ralph and I rode horses about five miles to practice for Children’s Day Program at the Nazarene Church south of Palco. (end of pages that Mom had written about her childhood)
Other misc. Items she had notes written on small scraps of paper.
At the age of 9-12 going to church and Sunday school were the main things in my life. I would have girl friends visit me on Sunday and I would spend a Sunday with them when we went back to Church that evening we would each go home with our parents. I can recall how the valleys had such a damp smell as we went to and from Church because we were riding in an open Model T.
Henry Noah was born in Glenwood, Iowa July 19th 1866. His parents came to Mitchell County Ks in a covered wagon in 1871. on Lived at Walnut Grove until he was married to Lola Wallis. Lived on a farm there for short time. Went to Wichita County in south west Ks, it was so dry there they went to south east Ks and lived for awhile. Henry chopped wood and took it to the city in the fall to get enough money to bring winter supplies. When he was gone which took several days to get to the trading post and back, my grandmother slept with a butcher knife under her pillow as she was always afraid of waking up and an Indian looking down at her. Ray was born here, later for one year lived south east of Hill City in a house owned by a man who had just lost his wife and said they could live with him. His house had 3 rooms and he said they could have two so grandmother and grandfather put wires across the room both ways making separate rooms for beds and used the other room to eat, cook, and live in. The worst thing about it was the old man had fleas and all the children got measles, then a boy stopped there and had an epileptic fit which they had never seen before. The children found a toy wooden horse at this place. The girls knew where a gun was and Verna said “let’s shoot the horse” and Violet didn’t want it shot so she put her foot by the horse, Verna shot the gun and hit her foot. It was 19 miles to town so they dug out the bullet and dressed it themselves and she recovered with no infection. They lived at this place one year .

Are you ready for the number 3
Big Big Changes. Our brand new website is up!! http://www.shittingglitter.com!! how very exciting? We've been dealing with this craptastic company called one2host, they have been just awful, now we are on yahoo so it should be much much more stable.
We are also rehearsing this weekend, at a place actually near our house!! I'm pretty excited about that. I feel the big turn around coming. We've booked a gig at the cat club coming up also, it's nice to have a show on the horizon.

Into the Groove
My alarm sounded harsh at 6:50 a.m., unwilling to pry myself from the bed I reset it for 6:53, these three minutes did the trick. I had to walk extra fast on my way to the subway, but I still feel it was worth it.
I'm back on top of the track today, or at least this will be my mantra. You've noticed the theme by now, but you'll bare with me and root hard. Won't you?
Yes, I intend to actually record a little guitar tonight. I am rather fond of the instrument, I am missing playing it loud and electric.

Some Mornings a.k.a. Get a Listen
That title above means fuck all, but what do you people really expect from me. By you people I mean Carrie and sometimes Devin. Tee hee! Hooty Hoo! I am in a very stellar mood today. I feel really gross and fat but really cool about it. You know what I mean? Kind of like Jimbo without all the smelly. I have been enjoying the creative output of human history here lately. I finished that book "A Prayer for Owen Meany", I really liked it. I'm reading a present I got of Virginia Woolf's "Orlando", Liking it, It makes me drink wine in the bathtub instead of beer. I also saw the movie "The Big Sleep" let me just say I'm a fan of Mr. Bogart.
This is all rather irrelevant and I suppose I should at some time come clean about the essential lack of purpose/focus of my blog. I have thought that It probably shouldn't really be up on the web for all to read if I'm not even going to aim for a basic level of entertainment. Then again, I'm not really baring the soul either, so there is no real sense in writing it in a leather bound book and placing it under lock and key either. Truth be told I don't much stress over these things, but I thought that I should at least post it around here somewhere, in case Carrie ever singles me out for here "Worst Blogs Ever" exercise.
We listened to the progress of the album this weekend, which could almost be considered as working on it. It is really a hum-dinger of an album, and it probably sits at 70% finished. I think I'll get back in the actual math of "working" on it really soon.
This weekend was a little calmer, Saturday night we were in bed before 11, which felt very nice on Sunday morning. I can't really say much about Sunday night other than I think Amy and I drank an entire case of beer each.
Maybe I'll blog again tomorrow.
This is all rather irrelevant and I suppose I should at some time come clean about the essential lack of purpose/focus of my blog. The sense to sit here and feel like hell
The ghastly uses of time, I am a very bad boy, I can't seem to locate my boot straps. I'm looking the other way before I cross the street, too lazy to even turn the first cheek, to silly to feel proper awful.

Rest is the Old Feel Awful
Resting on my laurel canyons. I am really jumpy and restless today. Embarrassed about another huge wasted weekend. I stand loud and clear on Monday morning and scream quietly, NO MORE... Sheesh. There is much to be done. I'll not have another week of empty promise and back handed poetry... Funny, it all starts sounding the same after a while.
Nothing Doing.
Nothing Doing.

tire legs
I have been walking a lot this week, still very much enjoying it. The mornings are difficult, because I have been taking a rather large dose of sleeping pills in the night. Waking up drowsy with less than 25 minutes to walk 2 miles does not make for leisure. The walk home is a different story. Amy has been walking to and from work also, her stretch is just a little bit farther than mine. I generally get off the train at the same time she gets off work, if not a little earlier, then it's a race to see who can get to the other one before they get home... Okay, it may be a little fuzzy cheesy, but it sure seems like great fun to me. Not to mention the exercise...
The single is nearing completion, I think.... I have been collaborating with someone who goes by the name of a large sandwich, it's been a very worthwhile learning experience, but it also shows me how much I have no understanding of.

Happy Sour
Okay, It's the Friday of my week of trying to feel better. I just ate a HUGE cinnamon roll so let's not get carried away with the victory dance. While I did take a Xanax and fall into a deep chemical sleep last night, I can proudly say I did it while not having drank everything not tied down first. I'm going to go a head and call it victory by decision.
So. I'm pretty excited about things right now. I am pretty certain I have found the "right" guy to master the single, at a pretty remarkable price I might ad. Today I will mail him some wav files and let him take a crack.

Check Up!
Okay, I am farther along in my week of turning things around, some things I have managed and others I have not. This food and drink problem will plague me longer yet. I did finish mixing the single last night, by far my favorite project thus far!! And in going further I have taken many steps to get someone to master the thing. I wrote yet another poem of sorts. I walked to the subway today, it felt nice to be awake and the air was warmed by the sun. Next week should be even warmer, what with the losing of an hour.
Just a few more pesky pesters to take care of.

Patchy
Sprung forth from my chin tiny reminders of metaphor, very much less in bloom. If pride is a sin my facial hair is a crime. Raw nerve endings fill in better. I have a vision, of fields ripe, I have a reminder to attain. I glimpse progress in the mirror, of telephone poles and picket fences. Idle scratchy reminder. In cocoon, buzzing about, things need organized, labeled, quantified, sorted, stacked, measured, recorded. I know better stories, but they put a finger to lips and wink, they are waiting, smart enough to keep silent, knowing that they wish to be Out Done by what is to come.

Week Humper
Half way through on the week of promises. I have accomplished some of them. I wrote a little Poem. I finished my book and started a new one. I am very nearly finished mixing on the single. I have walked home from work, but not yet walked in the morning, in fact I woke up late again today so I had to drive.
I'm going to pause here to wonder about why I can't seem to wake up consistently on time these last few weeks. Is my late waking symptomatic of something? Does my alarm clock not function as well as it once did? Do I care less about getting to work on time. There are no answers to these questions.
I am still eating very poorly, this will cause me to end up more portly. I drank with the best of fishes last night also. I haven't handled any of that love nonsense either, but at least the poem was short and without title.

Ride it on
Okay, Back to the grinding. I will blog more this week. I will finish mixing the single. I will stop eating like junk food is about to become illegal. I will stop drinking everything that isn't tied down. I will stop untying things that should remain tied down for the sole purpose of having another drink. I will sleep more this weekend. I will walk to work as I have been. I will be nicer. I will finish reading "the Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck. I will refer to myself as Buck, and Buckie. I will write a poem. I will make plans to do something nice this weekend. I will remind certain people that I love them.
I will remind others that they need to and should love themselves. I will be good.

Mali Boo Boo
Last night was my Uncle's last night in town. I drove out to Malibu to deliver their camera to them and to see them off. It was a beautiful evening and we sat out back of their camper drinking a couple beers and smoking some grass. It ws nice to see him and his family again, they mean a great deal to me, and I often miss getting to hang out and work on music with him.
So tonight I return to regular life. La Di Da. It can always go one of two ways... I'm hoping it lands on the responsible side, but it's easy to have that hope before noon.

Gads
It's been a while since I have felt the nudge to blog, I have no proper reasons or excuses to share at this time. Carrie, who is this lonely blogs lone reader or at least lone commenter, was in town for a visit, I'll refrain from getting deeply into the emotional effect of a visit from the wipp, but lets just say that there always is one.
I'm getting instant messages from several angles at this very moment, it makes blogging hard.
My Aunt, Uncle and Cousin have been in town since Monday, the day the wipp left (or at least tried to leave). It's always a little difficult to have out of town Visits from folks who don't know Los Angeles, it takes living here to see the reality, past the seemingly endless ball of traffic and expense, and I often feel embarrassed that folks are getting an incorrect impression of the life. On the other side of the coin it's been great to see a family that means a great deal to me, it makes me long for the ability to live in Two places at once. I would love the chance to go make an album in my uncle's basement.
I have had a delay in finishing the Lady Slipper single, I imagine I'll get around to it this weekend.

No Body Walks in L.A.
I walked from my house to the subway, and from the subway to my house everyday this week, that is a total of 25 miles. It takes me about 25 minutes each way, walking extremely fast. Cutting out waiting for the bus has improved my mind, I feel sharper. I can't stand waiting.
It's beautiful also, both evening and night.
Last night's show was strange. The poor sad palms is always so hard, never enough power outlets, dirty power, no help with sound... but alas there was free drinks for the band.
I am bored with my blog. I find that I can't entertain even myself with it these days. I must take action, do something absurd for the point of the blog. I do have that birthday coming up tomorrow.
hmm...

Put this in your ipod and smoke it
Okay, I've been away from the blog for a spell, sorry faithful reader.
The recording of the lady slipper is finished and roughly mixed. I am super impressed with it at this point. Lady Slipper itself is the best quality I've ever achieved in a song. The rest of the tracks are all very steady and strong, with wonderful atmosphere being often achieved. As A cohesive unit this single is very nice to listen to.
We play tonight at the palms, it should be a very lo-key rehearsal type Saint Pats.
I turn 26 in Two days. How very exciting!!

Eva Mae
My Grandmother passed away on Saturday. I got the phone call while driving back to Hollywood from the valley. It was of course a shock, but not a huge surprise. My grandmother was diagnosed w/ Alzheimer's over 10 years ago, in effect she has been dead for sometime. I loved her very much, she was a kind gentle being with a very specific sensibility. She was a force without applying any pressure.
She grew up on a farm in rural western Kansas where she spent most of her life. As a young woman she attended school in Emporia Kansas where she earned her teaching certificate. Upon Graduation she moved back to western Kansas to teach school in a one room school, very little house on the prairie if I do say so. She was the only adult on the premises so she was not only responsible for all education but also simple maintenance, such as keeping the coal powered stove going in the dead of winter. Later she married her husband of over 5o years, Earnest Strecker and started a family with four kids, the youngest being my Father.
Growing up Grandma and Grandpa Strecker lived less than 10 miles from our farm, this allowed us many afternoon visits. I recall being rather well fed during stays at grandma's.

All tracking was completed this weekend for the Lady Slipper Single. Tonight I help Devin move and Mixing begins Tuesday or Wednesday.
